A Brief History of Freemasonry in Thailand
Freemasonry in Thailand has a rich and captivating history, spanning over 130 years and intertwining different cultures and traditions in the pursuit of fraternity and moral growth.
It began in the late 19th century, during the reign of King Rama V, when Siam opened its doors to foreign influence. Early efforts to establish a Masonic lodge faced significant obstacles, including a shortage of qualified members and unfortunate setbacks. However, the vision of a Masonic presence endured, driven by the persistence of Brethren from various jurisdictions.
In 1911, after decades of perseverance, Lodge St. John No. 1072 was consecrated, marking a turning point for Freemasonry in Thailand. Though the lodge faced further challenges, including the disruptions of World War II, it continued to thrive, evolving with the arrival of American and British Freemasons. Today, Freemasonry in Thailand endures as a symbol of resilience and a commitment to the timeless values of the Craft.
